✈️ Delta Airlines is making a key change that could affect your next trip — especially if you’re the type who arrives just in time to board.

Starting Tuesday, April 8, Delta Airlines will enforce a new cutoff time for checked baggage on domestic flights, according to the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal. The Atlanta-based carrier announced that all checked bags must now be dropped off at least 45 minutes prior to departure for domestic routes.

🧳 What’s Changing in Delta Airlines’ Baggage Policy?

While most airlines require checked bags to be in 30 to 60 minutes before departure, Delta’s new 45-minute baggage cutoff rule standardizes the policy across most domestic flights. However, there are exceptions, such as at New York’s JFK Airport, where the cutoff time will be 60 minutes prior to takeoff.

Delta Airlines issued a statement explaining that the new policy aims to enhance efficiency and maintain the airline’s high standards for on-time departures, safety, and customer experience. The airline emphasized that the majority of travelers already check their bags before the 45-minute mark, so this change will mostly serve as a formal update to existing habits.

“Delta teams can ensure all customers have a great experience that begins with safety and continues with a clean, on-time, and enjoyable flight with their bags,” the company shared.

Even with the new baggage cutoff, Delta Airlines still recommends arriving at the airport at least two hours before domestic departures. This ensures you have enough time for check-in, security screening, and any unexpected delays.
